2023 Delaware Libraries Week Resolution
The Delaware Library Association (DLA) and the Friends of the Delaware Libraries are asking the state legislature to declare April 24-29, 2023, as Delaware Libraries Week across our state.
Proposed Resolution Proclaiming Delaware Libraries Week 2023
WHEREAS, libraries are important institutions that provide free and equitable access to information, technology, and resources that enrich the lives of all Delawareans; and
WHEREAS, libraries play a vital role in the education, enrichment, and empowerment of Delawareans of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; and
WHEREAS, libraries serve as community centers that provide a safe and welcoming space for all individuals, and promote social connection and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes the importance of school libraries in promoting student success and achievement;
WHEREAS, academic libraries are essential to the success of colleges and universities, providing students and faculty with access to a wealth of information resources, research assistance, and learning spaces;
WHEREAS, the American Library Association has designated the week of April 23-29, 2023, as National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries and library workers to their communities;
WHEREAS, the dedicated staff of libraries work tirelessly to provide exceptional services and resources, enriching the lives of their community members;
WHEREAS, the Delaware Library Association has designated the week of April 24-29, 2023 as Delaware Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of public libraries, school libraries, academic libraries, and the librarians and library workers who so ably serve their communities, schools, and campuses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we proclaim April 24-29, 2023 as Delaware Libraries Week and encourage all Delawareans to visit their local libraries, participate in library programs and events, and show their support for these valuable community resources.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we commend the librarians and library workers of Delaware for their tireless dedication to serving their communities, schools, and campuses and thank them for their vital contributions to our state's education, culture, and quality of life.
