Energize Delaware giving grants to All Public Libraries to go solar
Energize Delaware is providing grants to help Delaware libraries convert to using solar energy
Public Libraries are being given an opportunity to go solar.
Energize Delaware has created and launched a new program that will give public libraries money to add a solar array to their property to cut their utility costs. The 501 (c)(3) has allotted $3 million dollars for Fiscal year 2022-2023 and beyond.
The application requires that the library is open to the public; must be accompanied by a feasibility study (which they can included in the grant request) and will report production on an annual basis for three years. The application outlines the selection criteria and what is considered a structure suitable for solar.
Libraries may use the grant for feasibility studies, ground, roof or carport mounted arrays, battery storage, utility upgrades and installation. The feasibility study will help the libraries to decide the technical aspects, financial and savings that would occur by installing a solar system. It will also help the library determine if their building is suitable for solar. The required study must be done by a professional.
Libraries will retain ownership of their Solar renewable energy credits (SRECs).
“Energize Delaware’s Mission is to inspire sustainable energy solutions for a thriving environment and economy. Libraries can utilize the savings by putting it back into books and the services they offer to their communities,” said Tony DePrima, Executive Director of Energize Delaware.
