FODL Board Endorses Delaware Libraries for All Act (HB299)

The Friends of Delaware Libraries (FODL) is proud to announce its official endorsement of the Delaware Libraries for All Act (HB299). This endorsement comes after careful review and consideration by the FODL Board on February 19, 2024.

The Delaware Libraries for All Act (HB299) represents a monumental stride in upholding the principles of intellectual freedom and the unalienable right to read. At a time when censorship and book bans are on the rise, this legislation reaffirms commitment to safeguarding the freedom of speech and access to diverse literature, which are integral to the fabric of democracy.

HB299 addresses the critical issue of ensuring access to literature that amplifies LGBTQ+ and BIPOC voices, combating discrimination, and promoting inclusivity in public spaces. By integrating the core values of state public accommodation and civil rights laws with the First Amendment's principles, HB299 reinforces the notion that no individual should be denied access to information based on factors such as race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

"Our endorsement of HB299 is a testament to our unwavering commitment to intellectual freedom and the right to read," stated Kay Bowes, President at FODL. "By supporting this legislation, we are not only advocating for the rights of minority voices but also upholding the foundational pillars of equality, diversity, and inclusivity in our public libraries."

FODL urges all Delawareans to support the Delaware Libraries for All Act (HB299) and safeguard our Constitutional freedoms. Together, let us ensure that HB299 becomes law, reaffirming dedication to intellectual freedom, equality, and inclusivity in our communities.
